Some of these products were developed based on inquires from researchers about our manufacturing capabilities. SARS-CoV-2 Recombinant Proteins

Our highly purified recombinant proteins come with a variety of tags including Fc and His-tags and consist of a variety components of the SARS-CoV-2 including Nucleocapsid proteins, Spike proteins, the targeted ACE2 protein and Glycoproteins. BioServUK’s viral transport and preservation medium is designed for the safe preservation and transport of viruses such as coronaviruses, chlamydiae, and mycoplasma clinical samples for performance evaluation in PCR, RT-PCR, cell culture methods and other IVD procedures. The medium is manufactured according to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; SOP#: DSR-052-01).
BioServUK MagBead Viral RNA Lysis Buffer is intended for the isolation and purification of total nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) from biological specimens for performance evaluation in vitro diagnostic procedures. The proprietary formulation contains Guanidine Thiocyanate (GITC) and Dithiothreitol, and can be used directly in any end application requiring the isolation of viral RNA.
Anzergent 3-14 is chemically idenical to Zwittergent 3-14 and commonly used to solubilize viral fusion proteins such as the influenza HA protein and the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Read more in our May Newsletter.

Guanidinium thiocyanate is a chaotropic agent that is commonly used as a protein denaturant. This reagent is used in viral lysis buffers and RNA isolation kits to denature RNAse activity.
Affinity purification of monoclonal antibodies has been largely confined to the use of Protein A and Protein G chromatography. The immobilized Protein G resin is designed for simple, one-step, and rapid antibody purification from serum, ascites and tissue culture supernatant.

Tools for structural biology studies

We are amazed at the breakneck speed in which structures of SARS-CoV-2 proteins are being determined and deposited in the Protein Data Bank. This structural work is critical to the future design of therapeutics, neutralizing antibodies, and vaccines to combat this deadly virus. Below is a listing of some of the tools being used in these experiments. The PACT Premier screen was one of the crystallization screens used to obtain the initial crystal hits for the SARS-CoV-2 main protease structure determined by the group of Rolf Hilgenfeld at the University of Lubeck. Read their paper here.

The Proplex screen was used by researchers at the Diamond Light Source in their X-Chem fragment screening platform to determine crystal structures of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease bound to 66 different active site fragments. Read the report here.

The Microlytic MCSG 4 screen was utilized by Andrzej Joachimiak and collaborators from the University of Chicago and Argonne National Lab to obtain initial crystal hits of the endoribonuclease Nsp15/NendoU from SARS-CoV-2. Read their paper here.
The JCSG Core Suite from NeXtal was used by the labs of Ian Wilson at Scripps and Chris K. P. Mok at the University of Hong Kong to obtain crystals of a neutralizing antibody in complex with the receptor binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Read their paper here.
GDN, a synthetic substitute for digitonin, was used in the Cryo-EM structure determination of the ACE2 / B0AT1 complex bound to the surface spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 determined by Qiang Zhou and coworkers at Westlake University in China. GDN was used for the solubilization and purification of the membrane protein. Read their paper here.
