NAP: Non-Ionic Amphipol (8/2019)
Our new non-ionic amphipol (NAPol) allows for the reconstitution of membrane proteins in a detergent-free, aqueous solution. NAPol also avoids some of the limitations with traditional amphipols like low solubility at acidic pH and in the presence of multivalent cations. NAPol has been shown to be compatible with biophysical and structural assays, including NMR, cell-free expression, and cryo-EM. Read more in our August, 2019 Newsletter.

BP5008: Biotinylated Amphipol PMAL-C8 (7/2019)
Biotinylated amphipols allow for the immobilization of amphipol reconstituted membrane proteins onto solid supports, which facilitate assays such as ELISA and SPR. Anatrace offers two versions of biotinylated amphipols: biotinylated amphipol A8-35, and our new biotinylated amphipol PMAL-C8. 7Z-LCP14: 7.7 MAG (3/2019)
Our newest host lipid for LCP crystallization, 7.7 MAG, has very different properties compared to monoolein. With a smaller bilayer thickness and larger solvent channel, the cubic phase formed by 7.7 MAG is hypothesized to support crystallization of membrane proteins with larger intra or extracellular domains. BMA101: Diisobutylene-Maleic Acid / DIBMA (9/2018)
We are pleased to introduce the development of our own version of DIBMA as a sodium salt, an alternative to detergents for the solubilization and purification of membrane proteins. Purified using our own proprietary methods, and subjected to rigorous quality control tests, DIBMA can be used directly without any additional hydrolysis, dialysis, or purification. To save you time and simplify your workflow, we are excited to launch our new premixed monoolein:cholesterol for LCP crystallization. This mixture contains a 10:1 ratio of monoolein : cholesterol and can be used directly for LCP experiments. No more dissolving lipids in chloroform and worrying if all of the solvent is removed! P716 - DSPG (4/2018)
The lab of Raffaele Mezzenga from ETH Zurich characterized the anionic lipid additive distearoyl phosphatidylglycerol (DSPG) to swell the solvent channels of the host lipids used for LCP crystallization. This allows for the crystallization of membrane proteins with large intracellular or extracellular domains. Learn more in our April, 2017 newsletter.

ME12 - Dodecyl Melibioside (11/2017)
There are few examples of the successful use of non-ionic detergents in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies of membrane proteins. This is most likely due to the large micelle size of DDM and LMNG. Recently characterized by the laboratory of Chuck Sanders at Vanderbilt University, Dodecyl Melibioside forms small (42 kDa) micelles and is an effective detergent for NMR. BAM01 - Biotinylated A8-35 (6/2017)
Anatrace is excited to offer a new, biotinylated A8-35, which allows for the immobilization of membrane proteins onto solid supports. First described in 2009 by the lab of Jean-Luc Popot, membrane proteins reconstituted into biotinylated A8-35 can be immobilized onto surfaces coated with streptavidin and be used in biophysical assays such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and ELISAs. MPA4 - Monopod Amphipiles (7/2016)
MPA4 was originally created as a control detergent to test the effectiveness of the neopentyl glycol detergents. In these tests, this detergent showed promising results on a number of different membrane proteins which were comparable to DDM. MPA4-C12 contains a 12-carbon alkyl making it comparable to DDM, while MPA4-C10 contains a 10-carbon alkyl making it comparable to DM. Additionally, the CMC of the MPA4 detergents is four times higher than their DDM/DM counterparts, rendering it with potentially better extraction capabilities. MNA - Mannitol-based Amphiphiles (7/2016)
MNA detergents are a variation to the molecular architecture of the Neopentyl Glycol class of detergents. These detergents contain two flexible alkyl chains connected to four glucose groups via a mannitol linker. Currently three alkyl chain lengths are available: 12-carbon (MNA-C12); 13-carbon (MNA-C13); and 14-carbon (MNA-C14). Learn more in our July 2016 Newsletter.

Premixed Bicelles (5/2016)
In order to provide options for bicelle crystallization, Anatrace is excited to offer pre-mixed bicelle solutions of the two most commonly used lipid–detergent combinations. Anatrace pre-mixed bicelles are available as 250 µl of 30% stock solutions of either 2.8:1 DMPC:CHAPSO (D514:C317 BIC MIX 0.25 ML) or 2.8:1 DMPC:DHPC (D514:D606 BIC MIX 0.25 ML). DDTre - Trehaloside Detergents (4/2016)
Based on the molecular architecture of DDM, these new Trehalose detergents replace the head group maltoside with a trehalose disaccharide. These detergents have demonstrated success in the solubilization and purification of a number of membrane proteins, and are the perfect detergent to try when DDM falls short. There are three structural isomers available: 3-DDTre, 4-DDTre, and 6-DDTre. Each of the structural isomers of these trehaloside detergents show differences in molecular geometry, which has an effect on the properties of the detergents when compared to DDM.
